We are currently
offering the following products from our fine sheep:
We have just finished shearing and are pleased to have a lovely
selection of fall fleeces ideal for hand spinning. Our pastures
held up so well this fall, the sheep were not on hay prior to shearing.
The weather cooperated also which allowed the sheep to be brought
directly off the pastures for shearing. This means exceptionally
clean fleeces because the sheep didn't have to be penned in the
barn for several days prior to shearing.
We are in the
process of skirting fleeces now and will list them as they are skirted.
We skirt the fleeces as we would if we were using them ourselves, first
removing the back and britch wool, then removing any tags, second cuts
and vegetative matter. Even so, you can expect to find a small
amount of vegetative matter in the fleeces that can easily be removed
while carding or spinning.
We do not offer any fleeces for sale
that we would not use ourselves! These fleeces have nice staple
lengths for spinning or for use in various other craft projects such as
felting and may be used for doll hair. Please view our ewe and
lamb pages where we have photos of our sheep sporting their lovely
fleeces.
We are confident
that our fleeces are of excellent quality. The following is an
excerpt about our wool:
"I have really
been enjoying spinning your wonderful wool. The colors are
beautiful, the fiber a joy to spin."
"...beautifully long 6-8" fiber . Great for lopi yarn , worsted,
easily spun fine for shawls"
A.A., NH
We are always
striving for the finest quality products and welcome your feedback.
The fleeces
offered on the list below are raw fleeces, meaning that they are
unwashed allowing you to spin in the grease if you wish. Fleeces
are not difficult to wash, but it does take a bit of extra time.
If you would like your fleece washed, we would be happy to wash it for
you for an additional fee of $7.00 per fleece. You can expect the
washed wool to weigh less than the listed raw wool (called shrinkage) as
the lanolin adds weight to the raw fleeces.
The prices listed do not include shipping. If you need your
fleece shipped, we will be happy to provide a shipping quote. We
ship fleeces in plastic bags by parcel post through the USPS unless you
request otherwise. We accept cash, checks, money
orders or PayPal. If interested in a particular fleece, please contact us.
We will mark the fleece as reserved for seven business days or until we
receive your payment, whichever comes first. Upon receiving your
payment, your fleece will promptly be shipped to you. If we are
washing your fleece for you, please allow for a few extra drying days
prior to shipment.
...Still not sure?
If you send us a SASE, we will be happy to provide you with a sample
from a fleece that you are interested in.
We will
fill in the table below with information on our fleeces as they are
skirted. If you are interested in a raw, unskirted fleece, they
are available in black, white, moorit, black grey and moorit grey at a
price of $8.00 per pound plus shipping.
Horns:
We currently have horns available for $25.00/set
plus shipping. Horns are dried with the core still in. We
have black, white and moorit horns available. If interested in the horns, please contact us so
that we can give you a price for shipping USPS priority.
Pelts:
Icelandic
pelts are simply luxurious. We offer both full wool and shearling
pelts. The pelts can be used for throws and rugs, adding a warm
touch to any room. Stitched together, they make lovely bed
spreads. They also are excellent for use in wheel chairs
or bassinettes (pelts will need to be thoroughly aired out after
processing for this use). You can also use them as seat covers for
your car or truck in the winter months. Hobbyists and sports
enthusiasts use pelts for making slippers, doll hair, vests, purses and
fishing flies. Pelts are easily maintained, simply shaking them out will
remove any dust. Some pelts are dry clean only. Others are machine
washable, we will specify this in the pelt description as well as
including washing instructions with your shipment, although we have
never had to wash our pelts. We ship our pelts USPS priority. Call
us for a shipping quote.
Here at
last! Lamb pelts!!! They are
absolutely fantastic! Several of the pelts have small holes from
the skinning/scraping process on the leather side. The
holes do not interfere with the integrity of the pelt or the appearance
of the wool.
